WHAT IS "GOOD" GOVERNANCE?
The task of governing rests with the elected officials in a municipality, or independent school district. "Good' governance is the process of understanding the needs of the owners (community members) and providing for those needs through the organization the represent.
- City council members for their community; and
- Independent school districts for their students, parents, and staff
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The pursuit of governance excellence is an on-going process for elected officials that focuses their efforts on the role of serving as trustees, stewards, and leaders of a government or non-profit. Governance clarifies the goals and objectives of the organization, sets clear expectations for management/staff, and evaluates the results.
